When getting ready for your first move-in, you might wonder what self-storage unit size is right for you. Here are a few handy tips from our professional facility manager:

1/ Test it at home.

Get a duct tape and tape off 1,20m (long) x 1,20m (wide). This is the square size of our S Unit (small unit), and they are 1,20m high. Now, try and put all your items into the area. If they fit, go with an S unit!

Tips on picking the right self-storage unit size.

2/ Think vertically.

Our small units are 1,20m high on average, but our walk-in units are 2,80m high. That’s a lot of space! Most customers underestimate the number of items they can actually store in one unit. Try and put as many items as possible on top of each other (without damaging those at the bottom).

3/   Disassemble, but don’t overdo it.

Take furniture apart whenever possible, but don’t overdo it. No need to disassemble it to the tiniest part. Use a small baggie for loose parts such as nuts and bolts, and affix it to the furniture.

4/ Box up.

Get sturdy boxes (or buy them from us), and put heavy items such as books or appliances in the lower boxes. Add boards between layers for extra support! Tape the drawers so that things don’t come flying out!

5/ Label your boxes.

In a few weeks or months, you might not remember what you put there. We always recommend to clearly label your boxes!
